BRISBANE NEWS - CORBETT HOUSE FEATURE

Of all the rooms in this six-bedroom Buderim house, it was one of the four bathrooms that caught the eye of judges in the 2011 Abode House of the Year Award, a national competition with six panelists from the building design and architecture industries. The view from the tub says it all. It's on the top level of the house along with a gym, sauna and suspended concrete rooftop terrace.

RENOVATE - DONALDSON PROJECT

A chance to revisit a past project the Donaldson extension proved to be an exciting challenge taking an old piece of work to the next level, updating it now and for the future. The original homes simplicity was the main inspiration for the additional elements to this extension. The new detached guest pavilion complete with external fireplace and separate courtyard along with updates for the landscaping, pool entertaining area, garage and additional 2 way bathroom were the primary extension elements added to this beachside home.

Trevor Reitsma from Reitsma and Associates picked up 251-350sq m with the 'O' House, constructed by Ryan Designer Homes and engineered by HR Design Group. SUNSHINE COAST HOME MAKES GOOD USE OF STEEL

Designed by Trevor Reitsma, the brief was to produce a modestly sized, fully functional family home that was sympathetic to the natural contours of the site. The bush setting was to be maximised and the expansive eastern ocean views and northern aspects taken advantage of. The main structure of the house floats above the recessed garage and steps up the site for a 'lightly touching' result that is sympathetic to the bush setting.

Designers are often asked to achieve the impossible, or so it can seem. Although the site had its limitations, the owners wanted a decent-sized family home with many outdoor living features, including a flat lawn and swimming pool. Suspended concrete slabs enclose the glass-walled living areas of this new house, which was designed to capture ocean views. Designing a bunker-style split-level house ensured there was enough space for it all.

The building design had experimented with concepts that drew on their minimalist lines, so when the opportunity arose to design a multi-purpose structure at the back of a residential block in Caloundra in Queensland, he decided to bring his ideas to live with the help of Colorbond steel. Essentially, I created a shipping container cool enough to call home.
